Ideas for Green Lantern Party Theme
The Green Lantern has a back story that is a little different from most other superhero stories.
The first Green Lantern was named “Alan Ladd” (a play on words form the name Aladdin and his magic lamp.) Since then, several characters have assumed the “Green Lantern” persona, each receiving the powers that go along with the magic lantern and the ring.
The character “Hal Jordan” was one of the most popular, and most important in the history of the character. He was one of the founding members of the Justice League, and it is his character that Ryan Reynolds will be bringing to life in the big-screen adaptation The Green Lantern, coming on May 6, 2011.
Decorations
There are literally some paper green lanterns you can buy to decorate your home or party room with green. They are more like Chinese lanterns but they are green and would fit into your green theme. You can make a green lantern craft with some green and black construction paper yourself.
Just roll the green paper into a cylinder, and wrap a black band of paper around the top and bottom to make the lantern. You can use a cord and a hole punch to make the handle. Purchase simple green plastic plates, cups, bowls, silverware and a tablecloth which can be found at any party retailer.
A life-size stand up of Green Lantern can be the centerpiece of your decorating style.
You can also buy some Green Lantern comic books to decorate the place of your future party. You can take the pages of comic books to hang on the wall as a last-minute wallpaper. Use the pages of comic books (modern, inexpensive ones) as part of your table cloth.
Food and Drink

You should serve plenty of green food. Green Jello jigglers would be fun, green cupcakes, cookies, or birthday cake. For appetizers and finger foods there’s raw broccoli and celery. For fruits you can have green grapes and green apple slices to serve your party guests. Guacamole can be an acquired taste but is a wonderful dip for tortilla chips. Avocados are what make guacamole green if you make it from scratch.
Green punch is easy to make or even buy.
Activities
Have your guests dress in green and have a costume contest for the best Green Lantern impression. Bringing props such as his ring or a real green lantern would also be appropriate.
Here are some ideas of activities:
- Let the kids play a game of Green Lantern freeze tag in the back yard.
